Sirin Atceken, MFT
Şirin has received her Bachelor’s Degree from Middle East Technical University (METU) Psychology Department and her Master’s Degree from Drexel University Marriage and Family Therapy Program as a Fulbright Scholar. After graduation, she worked with families and individuals at Thomas Jefferson Hospital’s Methadone Clinic and Family Therapy Treatment Program-PHMC
After graduating from Notre Dame de Sion French High School, she completed her undergraduate education at Middle East Technical University (METU), Department of Psychology. Then, as a Fulbright Scholar, she completed her Master's Degree in Couple and Family Therapy at Drexel University, Department of Health Sciences in the USA. She had her clinical internship and worked as a Philadelphia Health Care Management therapist at the Family Therapy Treatment Program and Thomas Jefferson Hospital Family Health Center in Philadelphia in the field of substance abuse, trauma and family relationships. She became part of group therapies with inmates in Philadelphia Riverside Prison on trauma and family relationships.
She took part in the creative and implementing team of the World Bank Creative Development Ideas Competition award-winning VOLEY (Vision Formation Integrative Method) Project. This method, which was created to reveal the professional tendencies of young people through internal processes and to increase their personal, internal and life awareness, was supported by the Provincial Directorate of National Education and Marmara University.
She is currently co-founder of Salt Psychology Institute in Antalya, Turkey. Apart from using EMDR as a frequent therapy approach, she has been working in research and projects about EMDR’s usage in various cases, problem areas and integration into other psychotherapy approaches. She also presents at national and international congresses, writes book chapters and edits books translated in the field.
Şirin is the the Vice President of EMDR Turkey Association and EMDR Europe approved Trainer, Facilitator and Consultant. She is also a volunteer therapist and supervisor for EMDR HAP Turkey (Humanitarian Assistance program) who aims to offer broad psychological support for healing social traumas and natural disasters.
Her main areas of work are PTSD, Complex-PTSD, psychological trauma, chronic pain, somatic disorders, performance anxiety and improvement with athletes, employees and artists, sexual harassment, birth and early traumas, surgery and medical traumas, eating disorders, OCD, personality disorders, anger and stress management, fear of flying, phobias, grief processes, depression, anxiety disorders and panic attacks, attachment and relational problems, etc. and couple and family therapy.
